Finding & Fixing Your Leaks

Leak detection techniques are used to identify and locate leaks in your plumbing system. Leaks can occur in various parts of the plumbing system, including pipes, fixtures and appliances, and can lead to water damage, increased utility bills and even structural damage over time.

At Burgos Plumbing, we use advanced equipment to help determine the location of a leak, even when it's undetectable to the eye and not easily accessible—when pipes are buried under concrete for instance. Once a leak has been detected, we can then determine the best course of action for repairing it. Early leak detection and repair could lead to significant savings by preventing water damage and reducing water bills.

If you'd like us to determine whether a leak exists, or to find the source of your leak, call 0421 567 427. Based in Corrimal, we service Wollongong, Shellharbour and Bowral.

Leak Detection Methods

Leak detection methods vary depending on the type of plumbing system and the location of the suspected leak. To help you, we utilise:

  • Pressure Testing: This involves pressurising your plumbing with air or water to locate any leaks. We'll close off all the valves and taps in the system and then pressurise the pipes to a specific level. If the pressure drops, it indicates that there is a leak somewhere in the system.
  • Infrared Cameras: These cameras detect temperature changes in the plumbing system caused by leaking water. We'll use a thermal imaging camera to scan the area where the leak is suspected. The camera will show areas where the temperature is different from the surrounding area, indicating a possible leak.
  • Acoustic Detection: This method uses specialised equipment to listen for the sound of leaking water within the plumbing system. We'll use a sensitive listening device to listen for the sound of running water in the pipes. The sound of the leak will be amplified by the equipment, making it easier to locate.
